If there is a woman to blame, it’s Rachel Breckenridge. Her decision sets the course for all the misery and action in my novel, HUNT FOR REDEMPTION. Her choice to turn her world upside down has a domino effect, going beyond her own fate and affecting many others.
Although her life seems perfect, she finds it isn’t enough. She has a loving husband, an adorable little boy, a beautiful home, and a rewarding career, but she has hit a low point in her life. She mourns the death of her father, and sadly, her husband is so distracted with growing his business, he doesn’t offer the comfort and understanding she desperately needs.
Out of the blue, a group of loving Christians comes to the rescue. They show her love through their words and deeds. They promise a better future for herself and her son. Once entrenched in this group, her information becomes filtered and interpreted for her. They have the truth, the only truth. Fronting as a church, they are a dangerous extremist group, but Rachel doesn’t see it. She believes what she wants to believe. Anything negative said about the group is a lie told by agents of Satan. She denies her own instincts and believes only what she is told to believe. After all, she is taught traditional churches deceive and misinform people.
Her world becomes small. Her world becomes isolated. Her world is black or white. Her world is made up of other people just like her who believe the same “truths.” No one else matters. She cuts herself off from her family, friends, and community.
Only when she lets an outsider into her world does she open her mind to the truth. Of course, forces tried to block her from leaving the elitist group, putting not only her own life but the lives of others in jeopardy.
